The ceremony was graced by senior security officials, traditional leaders, families, and friends who gathered to celebrate the recruits’ milestone.

The Reviewing Officer for the parade, Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr. Daniel Kwame Afriyie, delivered a stirring keynote address emphasizing the importance of discipline, service, and adaptation to modern security challenges.

COP Afriyie congratulated the recruits on their “smart turnout and impeccable display of drill,” describing it as a testament to their resilience, commitment, and readiness to serve.

Bringing greetings from His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, COP Afriyie applauded the Police Administration, under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, for its ongoing reforms.

He revealed that specialized units within the service were being strengthened and refocused, with recruits screened for potential roles in these operational arms.

“In just a few months under the current IGP’s leadership, the service has made headway in combating violent crimes. This success has not gone unnoticed, as even the President acknowledged these gains during the inauguration of the Police Council,” he said.

The new officers underwent intensive academic and practical training in subjects including Police Science, Law, Social Science, Riding, Driving, Public Order Management, and Disaster Response. COP Afriyie emphasized that this comprehensive training would equip them to serve with “confidence and practical orientation.”

A key highlight of the speech was the service’s commitment to supporting the government’s flagship 24-hour economy. A new unit—The 24-hour Economy Security Secretariat—has been established at Police Headquarters to coordinate security across the country in line with this economic policy.

COP Afriyie urged the new officers to carry out their duties with humility, integrity, and respect for human rights. “The badge on your chest is not a license to intimidate,” he cautioned. “Let your conduct, both on and off duty, reflect the high standards expected of you.”

The ceremony also saw special recognition for outstanding recruits:

  • PW/SGT Dedjoe Sophia (National Police Training School, Accra) was named Overall National Best Under-Cadet Officer.
  • G/CPL Agyapong-Mensah Eric emerged as the Best Under-Cadet Officer for the Ho school.
  • G/R Gyarteng Evans Kwasi (Koforidua) took the top spot as the Overall National Best Recruit in the standardized examination.
  • G/R Amedome-Reigns Emmanuel was named Best Recruit and Overall Best for the Ho school.
  • The Koforidua Training School was also awarded Best Performing School based on examination scores.

COP Afriyie expressed gratitude to institutions and individuals who contributed to the reconstruction of the school’s parade grounds and supported the training program, including Consolidated Bank Ghana, Stanbic Bank, Access Bank, local philanthropists, and the 66 Artillery Regiment.

In closing, COP Afriyie declared the recruits “duly admitted into the Ghana Police Service” under Section (1) of the Police Service Act, 1970 (Act 350), officially vesting them with the powers and responsibilities of Police Officers.

“Let us support our Police Service and work together to build a safer and more secure Ghana,” he concluded.
