191 Suspects Arrested Over Burning of Ehi Police Station

The Military and Police have carried out a joint operation leading to the arrest of 191 suspects in connection with the burning of the Ehi Police Station at Dzodze in the Volta Region.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Volta Regional Police Command, Chief Inspector Francis Gomado, the suspects include 190 men and one woman. He explained that the joint operation was launched to apprehend individuals believed to have assaulted police officers on duty at the Ehi Police Station before setting the station ablaze.

Chief Inspector Gomado revealed that the suspects vandalized two police vehicles and destroyed several items at the station.

He further stated that all the suspects are currently in custody at the Regional Police Headquarters in Ho and will undergo screening, after which appropriate legal actions will be taken against those found culpable.

Chief Inspector Gomado, however, noted that the number of suspects is likely to reduce after the screening, as some innocent individuals may have been caught up in the mass arrest.

He appealed to the media to help sensitize the public—particularly the youth—that the police exist to protect them, and that effective collaboration between the police and the community is essential for maintaining peace and security.
