The workshop was organized by Gray Network, a Gender and Reproductive Health Advocacy Youth Network based at Ho and Hohoe with funding from the High Commission of Canada to Ghana, Togo and Sierra Leone.

It brought together representatives of youth groups from Sogakope and Dabala as well as students from Sogakope Senior High School (SOGASCO), Comboni Technical and Vocational Institute (COMBOTECH), Sogakope Technical Institute (SOTECH), all at Sogakope and the Dabala Senior High Technical School (DASTECH) at Dabala. Also present were four (4) visually impaired students from the Adidome Senior High School (ADISEC) where inclusive education is fully in operation.

According to the Programme Manager of Gray Network, Mr. Godsway Mensah, the initiative formed part of efforts to strengthen inclusive governance in Ghana through youth and women leadership development and advocacy campaigns that would inform, build confidence and also empower the youth leaders for the future tasks ahead of them.

The Resource Persons, Mr. Godsway Mensah, Dr. Enyonam Mansah Gasu, Misses Favour Okorie, Philomena Elloh and Angela Ahadjie, all of the Gray Network as well as Mr. Seth Afiagorme, South Tongu District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), took the participants through the various topics including Stakeholder Engagenment and Policy, Youth Civic Engagement Platforms, Advocacy and Social Mobilization, Gender and Disability Inclusion, Effective Communication for Leadership as well as Civic Rights and Democratic Participation.

The Project Lead, Dr. Enyonam Mansah Gasu noted that even though the youth form the majority of the population in Ghana, they are not well represented when it comes to decision-making or issues that affect them, adding that the situation is even worse with issues with Persons With Disabilities (PWDs). This paradign, she emphasized must change, with a call on stakeholders and duty bearers to create the opportunity for the youth and PWDs including visually and hearing impaired persons to be involved in all the governance processes thereby promoting inclusive governance in their communities.

Dr. Gasu reminded Ghanaians that the role of PWDs in the development of the country cannot be over-emphasized. ‘We should not look down upon them; they are human beings like us with special ability skills that can also be used to advance the course of the development of the country’, the Project Lead intimated.

The South Tongu District Director of the NCCE, Mr. Seth Afiagorme urged the participants not only to remain committed to their dreams, vision and aspirations in life but also be patriotic to the overall development of their communities in particular and the country at large.

Leadership training at Sogakope

According to him, as leaders, they should be selfless, honest and committed to addressing issues that affect them, their peers and the society in general.

One of the facilitators of the training, Ms. Favour Okorie told our newsteam in an interview that the decision to involve the four (4) visually impaired students from Adidome SHS, was to create the opportunity for all the participants to appreciate the values, strengths and weaknesses of life and to see one another as partners in development.

The workshop formed part of a series of training programmes being organized by the Gray Network for stakeholders in its partner districts and municipalities including Ho, Hohoe and South Tongu.

The project, which is the initiative of the Dufia of Mafi Adidome, Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V, was supported by a number of individuals and groups including the CH Group Foundation based at Cantonments in Accra, the Ghana Library Authority (GLA), the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) as well as the Central Tongu District Assembly (CTDA).

The state-of-the-art library occupies two (2) classrooms of a renovated three (3) unit-classroom block facility belonging to the Mafi Adidome E.P. Basic School.

The library has been stocked with several thousands of books on almost all subjects ranging from general and story books, humanities and education, to books on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education. These educational resources are expected to tremendously advance the course of studies of the students and pupils at the basic and secondary school levels in the community and beyond. There are also books for adults and private people who can just walk in and read these materials.

The event was attended by a large number of dignitaries from far and near including the community, traditional, educational and political leaders of the district. Pupils from the host and sister schools as well as students from the Mafi Adidome Senior High School (ADISEC) including their School Choir were also present at the ceremony.

Inaugurating the facility, the Dufia of Mafi-Adidome and the brain behind the project, Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V noted that the provision of the library facility is a fulfillment of a long-standing dream during his installation as a Chief to prioritize and improve educational standards in the Mafi Adidome community and beyond. According to him, the facility which stands as a testament to a true gift to students, the school children and the teachers alike, would serve as a hub for learning, digital exploration and a place for effective knowledge acquisition.

Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V said the donation of the library symbolizes that education is the surest way to empowerment and called on the youth not only to make good use of the facility but also see it as an educational beacon of hope. ‘The library should become a place to cultivate ideas and the truth’, the Dufia of Mafi Adidome emphasized.

The Chief was grateful to the EPC for donating the building for the project, the GLA for accepting the challenge and supporting the initiative, the CH Group Foundation for the books donation, family members and scores of volunteers whose sacrifices, time and resources have all culminated in the successful execution of the project.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Hon. Addison Dodzi Mornyuie commended the Dufia of Mafi Adidome and his team of supporters and donors for the laudable initiative which according to him, would positively impact on educational outcomes in the district. ‘Development does not hinge around central government or the District Assembly alone. Individuals also have their respective roles to play. For Central Tongu to develop, everybody must be on board’, the DCE emphasized.

Hon. Mornyuie charged the pupils and students to make maximum use of the facility not only during the weekdays but also weekends. He appealed to the teachers to assist the learners with an effective time-table that would stand the test of time and inure to their benefit.

The DCE used the opportunity to announce that beginning from next year, his outfit and the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon. Alexander Gabby Hottordze would jointly introduce a competitive examination for all pupils of basic schools across the district. The examination, he said would be conducted in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science, aimed at helping to improve academic standards and performance at the basic and senior high school levels in the district. Prizes, the DCE added would be awarded to the best three (3) performing learners from each of the twelve (12) educational circuits of the district.

The Deputy Executive Director of the GLA, Mr. Israel Yao Dzantor was full of praise for the Chief of Mafi Adidome for the gesture. ‘If you have well-enlightened citizens in a community, this is what you see by way of results’, Mr. Dzantor remarked. He reminded the students that their future depends on the library, hoping that the provision of the facility would change the narrative of education and its outcomes in the district in the coming years.

Mr. Dzantor pledged the support of the GLA towards the effective use and resourcing of the library, adding that efforts would also be made to connect the library to what he described as the knowledge resources of the country.

The District Director of Education (DDE), Ms. Happy Tsifokor noted that the importance of the facility cannot be over-emphasized, adding that its provision is not only timely but also heartwarming for both the learners and the teachers.

The District Pastor of the EPC, Rev. Simon Addae was grateful to God for giving Mafi Adidome what he described as a visionary leader. He gave the assurance that the Church would continue to support the library and other initiatives that would promote its effective use.

The Operations and Research Lead of the CH Group Foundation, Mr. Benjamin Addo Kwakye said his Foundation is dedicated to advancing the development of underserved communities across the country. According to him, the provision of the library edifice is a shining example of what a visionary leader can achieve for his community and for the general societal development.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Adidome Community Library Lead, Mrs. Georgina Fiagbenu-Asare described the project as a dream come true. According to her, plans are also in the pipeline to equip the library with computers in order to make it a center for literacy enhancement.

A 13-year old final year pupil of the Mafi Adidome E.P. Basic School who delivered the vote of thanks at the event was showered with money and praises from the large gathering for the excellent performance of the assignment. Ms. Hozame was encouraged by all and sundry to learn hard in order to achieve her vision of achieving greater laurels in life.

The post Great Mission International Partners Project Safety Net to Empower Women and Children in Dodowa first appeared on Zilideon News.

During the event, women in the community were taught practical leadership lessons focused on managing their homes, nurturing their children, and supporting their husbands for the overall growth of society. Participants also took part in Bible studies as part of the moral empowerment activities.

The programme was held at the Great Mission International Children’s Home in Dodowa, with missionaries from the United States joining to interact and share insights with attendees.

Speaking to the media, the founder and leader of Great Mission International, Mr. John Nyavor, emphasised that leadership education is essential for men, women, and children. He explained that this belief inspired the organisation to host the programme.

A total of seven missionaries travelled from the United States to participate. They included social workers, pastors, missionaries, and psychologists. According to Mr. Nyavor, their purpose was to help train community members—especially women and children—to build stronger families and a stronger society.

Mr. Nyavor further noted that the Great Mission International Rehabilitation and Children’s Home is headquartered in Nungua, Accra, while the Dodowa branch was opened in 2014 to provide accommodation for children. Each room accommodates 10 to 12 children and is supervised by a couple who serve as mother and father figures to create a homelike environment.

He advised parents to take responsibility for the welfare of their children and cautioned them against allowing their children to roam the streets, stressing that the future of the community depends on proper child upbringing.

Addressing the gathering, Pastor Andre Dukes, a member of Project Safety Net, highlighted that the highest form of leadership is the ability to support others in achieving their vision. He noted that although every individual is unique, “Jesus died for all of us so that we might have the same access to eternal life.”

Pastor Dukes explained that true leaders do not need to agree with everyone in order to support them. He added that when God gives someone a vision, He also provides the resources and people needed to fulfil it. Speaking to introverts, he encouraged them not to feel pressured to constantly be around their followers in order to lead effectively.

Some participants also shared their thoughts, stressing the importance of understanding one’s God-given purpose and the people one is called to lead. They added that when God calls a person, He makes provision for the assignment. “When God calls you, stay in your lane and do what He has called you to do,” one participant said.

As part of the day’s activities, adults aged 18 and above engaged in group discussions on how God speaks to individuals.

In a major announcement, the organisation cut sod for the construction of a new hospital facility at the children’s village in Dodowa. Mr. Nyavor explained that the decision was motivated by an incident in which a pregnant woman nearly delivered on the floor due to the lack of a nearby health centre. He stated that the upcoming two-storey hospital will serve both the children in the home and the entire community.

According to him, the ground floor will provide treatment and first aid services, while the top floor will serve as an isolation and admission centre for patients.

Ho, October 22, 2025- Mawuli School, founded in 1950, stands as one of Ghana’s most
respected second-cycle institutions, situated in the serene city of Ho, Volta Regional capital.

The post Mawuli School 75th Anniversary: 2000 Year Group to Hand Over Renovated Iconic “Whiteblock”, Donate to Ho Prisons to Commemorate 25th Anniversary first appeared on Zilideon News.

It was established by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church under the visionary leadership of Rev. Dr. C.W. Armstrong—a Canadian missionary. The School’s founding purpose is to provide holistic education grounded in discipline, faith, and academic excellence.
Mawuli, meaning “God Lives” in Eʋe, is among the first secondary schools in the then Trans Volta Togoland, later Volta Region, and played a pioneering role in shaping the educational landscape of Ghana. From its inception, the School develops students who embody integrity, leadership, and service—values encapsulated in its motto: “Head, Heart, and Hand.”

Over the decades, Mawuli School has produced some of Ghana’s finest citizens—leaders in governance, academia, business, medicine, the arts, and ministry—whose contributions continue to reinforce the School’s legacy as a cradle of excellence and character formation.

The White Block: A Symbol of Heritage and Transition

Among the School’s earliest and most iconic structures is the “White Block”, an architectural landmark steeped in memory and tradition. Constructed in the early years of the School’s expansion, the “White Block” served as one of the first classroom complexes—a cornerstone of learning for thousands of Mawulians over generations.
Beyond its physical presence, the Block symbolises the formative journey of Mawuli students.

For decades, it has hosted classes, examinations, student group meetings, and even
moments of quiet reflection for those who passed through its corridors. For many alumni, the Building represents the starting point of their educational and personal growth, making it one of the most emotionally significant spaces on campus.

As time passed, however, the Building succumbed to the effects of age, weather, and heavy use. What was once a proud edifice of learning began to show visible signs of deterioration—cracked walls, faded paint, worn-out furniture, and leaking roofs. Despite its condition, its legacy as a symbol of the Mawuli spirit remained intact in the hearts of generations of old students.

WhyaLegacy Project for the 2000 Year Group?

The 2000 Year Group decided to renovate the Building as a legacy project to commemorate its 25th Anniversary due to sentimental attachment to it- the “White Block- and a sense of duty to preserve a key piece of the School’s history for future generations.

For manymembersofthe2000Year Group, the“WhiteBlock”iswherethey began their academic journey, built lifelong friendships, and developed the discipline and values that shaped their professional and personal lives. Therefore, restoring this historic Building became not just a project but a tribute to the institution that molded them.
The renovation was conceived with three core objectives:

  1. Preservation of Heritage– To restore and maintain one of the oldest and most symbolic structures on campus.
  2. Improvement of Learning Conditions– To provide a renewed, conducive environment
    for teaching and learning.
  3. Inspiration for Future Generations– To set an example of giving back and stewardship for younger Mawulians and future year groups.

The project, estimated at GHC 300,000, was executed in three phases—covering complete structural repair, roofing and painting, replacement of classroom furniture, and modernization of interior facilities to meet current educational standards.

A Milestone Event: The Handing-Over Ceremony

After months of dedication, resource mobilization, and construction, the fully renovated “WhiteBlock” is now ready to be handed back to the School. The official handing-over ceremony will take place on Sunday, 26th October 2025, at 12:30 PM, at the Forecourt of the Building on the Mawuli School campus.

The event will bring together school authorities, staff, students, alumni across year groups, parents, community leaders, sponsors, donors and invited dignitaries, celebrating not only the physical transformation of the Building but also the enduring legacy of Mawuli School’s alumni network.

Through this initiative, the Mawuli School 2000 Year Group reaffirms its commitment to the spirit of service and continuity that defines the School’s identity. The renovated “White Block” stands as a symbol of gratitude, renewal, and inspiration—a testament that true Mawulians never forget their roots.

Also, as part of activities marking the Group’s 25th Anniversary Celebration, a charitable
donation will be made to the Ho Central Female Prisons on Friday, 24th October 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Members of the Group will spend time interacting with the inmates and prison officials to encourage and inspire them.

This outreach forms a core part of the Group’s anniversary programme, which combines
celebration with service and social impact. The visit and donation aim to extend compassion and hope to the female inmates while emphasizing the importance of community support and reintegration.

The visit to the Ho Female Prisons is one of several key events planned for the weekend, which also includes a convoy participation in the OMSU 75th Anniversary Float, a 90s-themed social night, and the handing over of the renovated “White Block”—the Group’s 25th Anniversary Legacy Project—back to Mawuli School on Sunday, 26th October 2025 at 12:30 p.m.

About Mawuli School 2000 Year Group

The 2000 Year Group is part of the Old Mawuli Students Union (OMSU)—the alumni body of Mawuli School—comprising professionals across diverse fields united by their shared heritage.

As wecelebrate 25 years of graduation, the Group has chosen to invest in lasting impact projects that embody the School’s motto- Head, Heart, and Hand- beginning with the full restoration of the “White Block”.

The post Six Women Break Barriers in Heavy-Duty Machinery Training first appeared on Zilideon News.

The women were part of a 50-member cohort from across West and Central Africa who completed the intensive ten-week course at the Regional Maritime University (RMU). Their graduation is being hailed as a symbol of shifting cultural norms in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) across the region.
“These women are trailblazers,” said Mr. Dominic Kofi Eyiah, President of NAHEOG. “They are not only trained professionals now, but also role models who will inspire other young women to consider careers in technical and industrial fields.”

The training, now in its eighth edition, was jointly organized by NAHEOG and RMU to address growing skills shortages in the industrial, construction, and maritime sectors. The programme is part of broader efforts to build a skilled and inclusive workforce across the region.

NAHEOG

At the graduation ceremony, the six women—clad in hard hats and overalls—received enthusiastic applause from families, friends, and industry stakeholders. Their success signifies more than personal achievement; it represents growing momentum toward closing the gender gap in technical professions.

Mr. Eyiah used the occasion to highlight the critical role heavy-duty equipment operators play in national development. “You are the silent builders of progress—driving the machines that shape our cities, connect our communities, and power our economy,” he said.

He also addressed pressing industry issues, including NAHEOG’s successful intervention in halting a proposed 50% increase in charges on unstuffing and assembling of heavy equipment at Ghanaian ports. Additionally, he announced that mobile crane operators have been temporarily exempted from the Minerals Commission’s equipment tracking regulation under L.I. 2404.

To further enhance regulatory efficiency, NAHEOG is proposing the introduction of an Operator Biometric Authorization System (OBAS), which would tie equipment operation to the biometric ID of certified professionals. Mr. Eyiah called for collaboration between the DVLA, Minerals Commission, and NAHEOG to implement the system.
The ceremony also featured remarks from Dr. Issahaque Munawaru, representing Deputy Minister of Education Hon. Clement Apaak. He emphasized the importance of expanding opportunities for young women in technical sectors, citing TVET as crucial to Africa’s economic transformation.

The Acting Vice Chancellor of RMU echoed calls for government investment in modern training equipment to make programmes like these more accessible and affordable—particularly for young women.

Looking ahead, NAHEOG announced plans to scale up its training programme in response to rising regional demand for qualified heavy machinery operators.
For the six pioneering women, the moment marked not just the completion of a course, but the beginning of careers that challenge long-standing gender norms. Their achievement is expected to inspire more young girls to explore opportunities in technical fields.
“Remain adaptable, embrace innovation, and always operate with integrity,” Mr. Eyiah told the graduates. “Never stop learning. The future of this industry depends on skilled, ethical, and forward-thinking professionals like you.”

The post National Education Reform Forum Launched in Ho – President John Mahama first appeared on Zilideon News.

The forum, held under the theme “Transforming Education for a Sustainable Future,” gathered government officials, policymakers, teachers, students, parents, traditional and religious leaders, political parties, and members of civil society to discuss and shape the future of education in Ghana.

The launch was attended by several high-profile figures, including President John Dramani Mahama, the special guest Togbe Afede XIV (Agbogbomefia of Asogli State), the Chairman of the forum and Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Idrisu, and other dignitaries.

Addressing Educational Challenges

Mr. Forgive Agoha, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, shared his expectations for the forum, emphasizing the need to tackle the challenges hindering educational progress.

“Our hope is that this forum will address the issues preventing our education system from meeting national expectations,” Mr. Forgive Agoha stated. “We aim to find practical solutions that will enhance the quality of education, empowering students to contribute to national development and uplift their families.”

He highlighted several pressing concerns, including the limited number of professionally trained educators and the short-term nature of volunteer teachers from foreign countries. Mr. Agoha also noted that inadequate funding and insufficient teaching materials hinder the continuity of skills imparted by these volunteers. He expressed hope that the forum would develop strategies to resolve these issues.

Mr. Agoha further stressed the importance of supporting teachers to deliver quality education and equipping supervisors to monitor schools effectively. He emphasized that financial resources are crucial for implementing sustainable reforms and urged the forum to find ways to address the financial challenges faced by the education sector.

Togbe Afede XIV’s Address

Togbe Afede XIV commended President Mahama for his swift action on national issues since his inauguration on January 7.

“Your Excellency, you have not declared to us that you are in a hurry, but it is very obvious to us that you are in a big hurry, and we thank you sincerely,” Togbe Afede remarked.

He also praised Hon. Haruna Idrisu for his proactive approach to education reform. Togbe Afede emphasized that the education system plays a significant role in reducing poverty and enhancing national development. “So many people believe that education is the way out for us, the way out of poverty.”

He attributed part of Ghana’s economic challenges to the low level of human capital development and urged for greater investment in education.

“Indeed the most important factor in the production of goods and services in the growth of any economy is labour or human capital. Our collective attitudes, skills, and problem solving abilities determine the performance and productivity level that we will achieve.”

Togbe Afede stressed the importance of integrating technology into education to prepare students for the modern workforce. “In today’s work place we are looking for men and women who have the creativity and the imagination to be able to adapt the global changes.” he added.

Government’s Commitment to Reform

Hon. Haruna Idrisu, the Minister for Education, reiterated the government’s commitment to education reform. He called on experts and technocrats to provide their best insights to guide the reform process.

“This forum is not about delivering speeches but about gathering ideas to deliver meaningful results,” Hon. Idrisu remarked. He described President Mahama as a “legacy president” committed to leaving a lasting impact on Ghana’s education system.

Learning from Global Models

Speaking at the event, Prof. Joseph Agbenyegah highlighted the importance of a national ideological framework for education. He pointed to the success of Finland, Singapore, and Malaysia, attributing their strong education systems to a clear national purpose.

“When a nation has a well-defined educational ideology, changes in government cannot disrupt it because it is rooted in the country’s core values,” Prof. Agbenyegah explained.

President Mahama’s Vision for Education

In his keynote address, President John Dramani Mahama expressed his gratitude to the resource persons for their contributions.

“This moment marks a significant step in fulfilling one of the commitments our 120 days social contracts with the good people of Ghana,” President Mahama stated.

He emphasized that education is not only a tool for personal development but also the foundation for national progress and prosperity. “Education must remain a tool for empowerment, equality, and transformation in Ghana.”

President Mahama reaffirmed that education reform is not just desirable—it is a necessity for Ghana’s sustainable future.

In an inspiring act of generosity, a young Ghanaian footballer based in the United Kingdom, on behalf of his football team Kingswood United, has made significant contributions to the Adaklu Salvation Army Basic School. This donation was made in partnership with his mother, Adele King Davis.

The donation to Adaklu Salvation Army Basic School is not just a gesture; it carries great significance for the students, faculty, and the wider community. The donation included a variety of Football Boots, Jerseys and storybooks aimed at improving the children’s academic performance. Access to quality reading materials supports literacy and encourages a love for learning, paving the way for better educational outcomes.

This donation represents a vital connection between the diaspora and his homeland. By taking this initiative, both the footballer and his mother have set a powerful example for others. It encourages other young Ghanaians abroad to consider how they might also give back to their roots.

The School Administration’s Response

Mr. John Talley, the Assistant Headmaster of the Adaklu Salvation Army Basic School, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the donation. His remarks encapsulated the school’s feelings of joy and appreciation, emphasizing how vital such contributions are to their mission. Mr. Talley stated, “We are incredibly thankful for the support shown by the football team and the King Davis family. This donation will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our students.”

Current Challenges Facing Adaklu Salvation Army Basic School

Despite the uplifting nature of the donation, the Adaklu Salvation Army Basic School continues to face several challenges:

Originally initiated during former President Kufuor’s tenure, the school building remains unfinished due to abandonment by the contractor. The school authorities are actively urging the incoming government or Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to help complete the project. Finalising the school’s infrastructure will facilitate the admission of more students, expanding educational opportunities in the region.

Another pressing issue is the lack of desks for students. This shortage detracts from the learning environment, making it difficult for students to focus on their studies. Addressing this shortfall is crucial for promoting both comfort and efficiency in learning as school attendance grows.

The school authorities are keen on securing both local and international support to ensure the sustainability of educational initiatives. Increased collaboration with NGOs and community leaders can help overcome the current hurdles.
