During the visit to the Queen Mother’s residence, the Minister learned about Mamaga Akua Dei II’s journey to becoming the Paramount Queen of Togbe Afede XIV and the Asogli State.

Honourable Gomashie commended the Queen Mother for her leadership and suggested archiving her biography in the Regional Museum so that future generations and visitors can learn about her inspiring story.

On May 24, before visiting the Queen Mother, the Minister, accompanied by her Deputy, Honourable Yussif Issaka Jajah, and officials from the Ghana Tourism Authority, toured the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary and the Wli Waterfalls.

At the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, the team met with Mr. Francis Acquaye, the manager and Paramount Chief of the Tafi Atome Traditional Area. Mr. Acquaye shared some of the challenges facing the sanctuary and appealed for government support.

Mr. Acquaye expressed concern over the lack of accommodation facilities for tourists, noting that this limitation discourages extended stays and reduces potential revenue for the community.

The Minister praised the sanctuary’s management for maintaining a clean environment and assured the community that their concerns would be addressed promptly.

The tour then continued to the Wli Waterfalls, which required a 45-minute trek to reach the falls. Wli Waterfalls is located in the Hohoe District of the Volta Region and is one of Ghana’s most popular natural attractions.

Honourable Gomashie noted that while the site has great tourism potential, it also faces several challenges. She highlighted the lack of basic facilities, such as washrooms. “I recognize that for the 45-minute walk, there’s no washroom, that’s something we need to address.”

Hon. Gomashie called on all stakeholders—including families, District and Municipal Assemblies—to collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism to enhance the development of such sites.

She advocated for stronger partnerships across ministries and agencies to support tourism growth, emphasizing that the development of tourist sites should be a collective national effort.

The minister urged Ghanaians to encourage investors to invest in the sector.

“Again, let me use your platform as media to ask Ghanaians who know investors who have a passion for the tourism sector to approach the ministry so that we can together build eco-friendly facilities for people to enjoy.”

After the results were declared, Dr. Kofi Woaku spoke to the media, expressing his dissatisfaction with the electoral process. He voiced concerns that he suspected foul play by the electoral body.

Dr. Woaku alleged that the Electoral Commission had taken actions to prevent other candidates from having a fair chance, seemingly to pave the way for a specific candidate, for their own benefit.

“I reported this to the regional minister yesterday. I met him, I met a group of NDC so-called executives having a meeting with delegates and I wished to enter they refused, says Dr. Woaku.”

Dr. Woaku asserts that the electoral process was not a democratic method for electing individuals to credible positions, such as the Council of State. “A Council of State is a respected position, we should not allow anybody to subvert the will of the people.”

He also expressed his dismay over the Assembly members’ decision to be bribed.

Dr. Woaku told the media that the matter would proceed to higher authorities: “I want to tell the media today, this matter will go up, this matter will be taken to the next level.”
