Pull-Out Ceremony Held for Volta Regional Fire Commander, DCFO Joy Ameyibor Ayim

A pull-out ceremony was held in honour of the outgoing Volta Regional Fire Commander, Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) Joy Ameyibor Ayim, marking the end of a distinguished career in the Ghana National Fire Service on 12 June 2025.

The solemn and celebratory event was witnessed by high-ranking security officials, members of the Volta Regional Security Council (REGSEC), and the Volta Regional Minister, Honourable James Gunu.

Profile of DCFO Joy Ameyibor Ayim

DCFO Ayim was born on June 12, 1965, to the late Emmanuel Kwame Fosu and Margaret Addai Mensah. His educational journey began at Oninku Primary School in Tema, followed by stints at Peki Methodist and Dededo Primary School. He later returned to Tema, where he completed his middle school education at Oninku Middle School from 1981 to 1984.

He pursued technical training at Kpando Technical Institute, obtaining both Part 1 and Part 2 City & Guilds of London certificates in Electrical Installation Work. He continued at the same institution to complete an advanced course in Electrical Installation in 1987.

In 2010, DCFO Ayim graduated from the University of Ghana with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Sociology, followed by a Master’s degree in Public Affairs in 2012.

He also acquired a Certificate in Administration and Management (CAM) from GIMPA, along with a certificate in Occupational Safety and Health Administration. His dedication to lifelong learning led him to pursue additional certifications in Oil and Gas, Health and Safety, Fine Engineering, and Marketing.

DCFO Ayim joined the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on March 1, 1990, as a subordinate officer. He was promoted to the rank of Station Officer (SO) in September 1992.

In 2001, due to his exemplary service and hard work, he was selected into the Officer Cadet Corps, rising through the ranks to eventually attain the position of Deputy Chief Fire Officer, the rank from which he now retires after over 35 years of service.

Tributes and Acknowledgements

Delivering an emotional speech, Volta Regional Minister James Gunu—a former schoolmate of DCFO Ayim—praised him as a “fine officer, a dedicated public servant, and a committed member of REGSEC.” The Minister was visibly moved as he recounted Ayim’s professionalism, discipline, and dedication to public service.

He highlighted Ayim’s instrumental role during the region’s recent water crisis, commending his swift action and relentless effort to ensure water supply for residents. The Minister presented a citation in appreciation of Ayim’s outstanding service and leadership.

In his remarks, DCFO Ayim expressed gratitude to his colleagues, superiors, and the Fire Service at large for the support throughout his career. He also used the opportunity to call on the government to provide better logistics and resources to enable the Service to function more effectively.

Commendations from Dignitaries

The Chief Fire Officer, Madam Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, was not present at the occasion; however, her speech was delivered on her behalf by Deputy Chief Fire Officer Owusu Ansah. In her address, Madam Sarpong lauded DCFO Ayim as a ‘pillar of strength’ and took a moment to extend birthday wishes to him, as the ceremony coincided with his special day.

Also present was the Paramount Chief of the Peki Traditional Council, Torgbe Degah Kodzo Deh, who expressed pride in DCFO Ayim’s achievements, saying, “It is my joy and pride that a citizen of Peki has attained such a remarkable feat in the Ghana National Fire Service.”
