Sad Day for Cocoa Farmers in Ho – Alfred Dzah Passes Away at 76

Preparations are underway for the final funeral rites of the late Mr. Alfred Bismark Kofi Dzah, affectionately known as Checkini, a revered elder, agriculturist, and community leader whose life touched many across the Volta Region and beyond. The funeral is set to take place from Friday, 8th August to Sunday, 10th August 2025, in Klefe and Ho.

Funeral Schedule

The funeral ceremonies will begin on Friday, 8th August, with the collection of the body from the Ho Teaching Hospital (Trafalgar). This will be followed by the burial service on Saturday, 9th August, at Klefe-Dome, his hometown. A Thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday, August 10th, at the Liberty Church in Ho, near Maryland, where he worshipped in his later years.

Family, friends, sympathizers, church members, and members of the Klefe and Ho communities are expected to gather in large numbers to pay their final respects to a man many regarded as a symbol of faith, wisdom, and selfless service.

A Life of Purpose and Impact

Mr. Alfred Kofi Dzah

Born on 12th August 1949, Alfred Bismark Kofi Dzah was a man of many parts: a devout Christian, a seasoned agriculturist, a strong advocate for education, and an active community leader. His early education took him from Klefe to Kete-Krachi and later to Sogakope Secondary School (SOGASCO). He furthered his agricultural studies at Kwadaso Agric College and later in Ibadan, Nigeria.

He worked with various agricultural institutions, including Peki Agbatey Research Farm, the Cocoa Division at Bunsu, and Pankese Cocoa Research Station. After years in public service, he returned home to focus on full-time farming, becoming a teacher and mentor to many local farmers.

His commitment to education led to his appointment as PTA Chairman for local schools in Klefe, where he spearheaded several developmental projects.

A staunch member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alfred was also deeply involved in political discourse, offering advice to party executives and working closely with traditional authorities to promote community development.

Devoted to Faith

Mr. Dzah was deeply rooted in the Christian faith. He served as a church elder at Liberty Church, Ho, and was known for his dedication to Bible study and Christian principles. He also fellowshipped with Global Evangelical Church, Klefe, and Winners Chapel International, especially in his later years.

Survived By…

The late Alfred Dzah is survived by his loving wife, eight children, and eight grandchildren, many of whom have attained higher education and are actively contributing to society.

He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, 20th May 2025, at the Ho Teaching Hospital, at age 76.
