Tourism Minister Embarks on Three-Day Tour to Boost Volta Region’s Tourism Sector
The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Dzifa Abla Gomashie, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Ketu South, has reaffirmed her commitment to promoting tourism development in the Volta Region.
As part of a three-day working tour that began on May 23 and ends on May 25, 2025, she is engaging with regional leaders, stakeholders, and tourism operators to explore ways to enhance the region’s appeal as a top tourist destination.
Hon. Gomashie arrived with her delegation from the Ministry, including representatives from the Ghana Tourism Development Authority (GTDA), Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), and other allied agencies. Her tour forms part of a nationwide initiative to strengthen tourism development across the country.
On the first day of her tour, she visited a popular site in Ho known as “Point and Kill.” She is also scheduled to tour the Wli Waterfalls and the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary. Her visit will conclude with a courtesy call on the Agbogbomefia, Torgbe Afede XIV, on Sunday.
During a courtesy visit to the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, the two leaders discussed strategies to unlock the region’s vast but underutilized tourism potential. Hon. Gomashie assured that the Ministry is ready to provide technical support through its tourism experts, though she acknowledged that limited funding remains a significant challenge.
To overcome this, she called for innovative funding mechanisms and strategic partnerships to drive progress. She also mentioned that the Ministry is currently reviewing key conventions and policies to better reflect the needs of regions like Volta.
Hon. James Gunu expressed optimism about the region’s tourism future, highlighting its peaceful environment and strong security as major attractions. He revealed that the Volta Region is home to over 120 tourist sites, though access to many remains difficult.
He further noted that the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) is committed to collaborating with the Ministry and other stakeholders to strengthen the capacity of Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and improve tourism infrastructure.
“We are poised to make the Volta Region a leading tourism destination in Ghana,” he declared.
The Chief Director of the VRCC, Mr. Augustus Awity, also emphasized ongoing collaborations with development partners and stakeholders aimed at boosting the region’s tourism sector.
