Volta Region to Host 41st National Farmers’ Day Celebration in December 2025

The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has announced that the 41st edition of the National Farmers’ Day celebration will be held in Ho, the Volta Regional capital, on Friday, December 5, 2025.

The announcement was made during a press conference on October 27, 2025, in Ho. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Eat Ghana, Feed Ghana, Secure the Future.”

Hon. Gunu highlighted the region’s preparedness to host the national event and the numerous benefits it will bring to the people of the Volta Region. He described the opportunity as “a privilege and recognition of the region’s significant contribution to national food security.”

“This theme reflects our collective responsibility to promote self-sufficiency in food production, encourage the consumption of locally produced food, and ensure a resilient and sustainable agricultural future for our nation,” Hon. Gunu said.

The minister emphasized that the National Farmers’ Day, which began in 1988, has become a cornerstone of Ghana’s agricultural calendar. Celebrating the dedication and hard work of farmers across the country.

He added that while various districts will hold their own celebrations, the national event will take place in Ho.

Expected Benefits for the Volta Region

Hon. Gunu outlined several key benefits the region stands to gain from hosting the National Farmers’ Day:

  1. Economic Boost: Increased travel to the region will benefit transport operators, hotels, restaurants, and local businesses, boosting the regional economy.
  2. Business Promotion: The event will showcase the Volta Region’s agricultural potential and attract investors.
  3. Tourism Promotion: Visitors from across Ghana and neighboring countries will have the opportunity to explore the region’s tourist attractions, such as Mount Gemi in Amedzofe and the Volta Lake.
  4. Showcasing Local Products: Local artisans and entrepreneurs will be able to display crafts, cultural items, and agricultural produce, promoting national pride.
  5. Networking and Knowledge Sharing: Farmers will engage with national and international experts to exchange ideas and learn innovative farming practices.
  6. Youth Motivation and Job Creation: The event will inspire young people to venture into agriculture.
  7. Recognition of Local Farmers: Hosting the event offers Volta Region farmers a chance to gain national recognition.
  8. Government and Policy Attention: The national spotlight will attract greater governmental and developmental focus to the region’s agricultural sector.
  9. Strengthening Regional Unity: The event will foster collaboration and pride among the people of the Volta Region.

Pre-Event Activities

According to Hon. Gunu, a series of activities will precede the grand durbar and awards ceremony. These include:

  • Engagements with MMDCEs, district coordinating directors, and other stakeholders.
  • Meetings with municipal and district directors of agriculture, as well as heads of departments and agencies.
  • Organization of district and regional-level Farmers’ Day celebrations a week before the national event.

The minister also announced the 24-Hour Volta Trade and Investment Fair, which will coincide with the Farmers’ Day celebration.

He stated that the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, District Assemblies, Traditional Authorities, and other partners, has already begun extensive preparations to ensure a successful hosting of the national event.

Calls for Support

Hon. Gunu called on individuals, businesses, and organizations to support the celebration through sponsorships and partnerships. He commended J.A & Sons Company for their contribution of GH₵50,000 toward the event and urged residents of the Volta Region to actively participate.

“To the good people of the Volta Region, I urge everyone to participate fully in this important national event to make it a success,” he appealed.

He also expressed appreciation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for selecting the Volta Region to host this year’s national celebration and commended local farmers, including Tulasi and his team, for their contributions to agriculture in the region.

Volta Trade and Investment Fair to Align with Farmers’ Day

Addressing the media, Mr. Dela Gadzanku, the Regional Chairman of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and organizer of the Volta Trade and Investment Fair, expressed excitement about the partnership between the fair and the Farmers’ Day celebration.

He lauded the President, the Minister for Agriculture, and the Regional Minister for aligning the two events, noting that it will attract participants from across Ghana and neighboring countries.

Mr. Gadzanku revealed that this year’s fair will focus on improving agriculture through technology and processing raw materials to add value to local produce.

He also announced that the Volta Investment Summit will be held on February 28, 2026, encouraging entrepreneurs and project owners in the region to participate to connect with investors and strengthen the regional economy.
